Back open

If you drove by the farm stand last week, you may have noticed we were closed.  We apologize but were busy having a new baby!  (Well, Anne was.)  We are open again this week and will be until the food is gone.  We have mainly our fall produce out...potatoes, dried beans, tomatoes, and a few cantaloupe left.  There are also bundles of corn stalks available for your fall decorating.  If we get our Indian Summer these next couple of weeks, there might be some fresh lettuce available as well.

Fall Produce

9/26/2011

We don't have as much available these days, but to be honest it was getting getting tiresome trying to keep up with all the tomatoes, green beans, okra, and cucumbers.  We are transitioning to some fall produce, and it is a welcome change.

We have potatoes in all different colors bagged, labeled, and available for purchase.  We are working on shelling and drying our kidney beans and pinto beans.  We planted a fall crop of lettuces, but it has been soooo cool lately that I'm not sure there will be much.  If it warms up a little we will be offering lettuce for sale.  We also have a few pumpkin plants and will be bundling some corn stalks, so you can stop by the stand for some of your autumn/harvest decorations.

In the freezer (you'll have to ring the door bell, call, or email) we have some new grass-fed ground beef.  We also bagged and froze some of our awesome bi-color sweet corn.  If you enjoyed it over the summer, you can enjoy i over the fall/winter now too.

Back to School

With school starting it has been harder for us to "man" the vegetable stand.  Nate (and Jordan) are still picking the produce, and we are going through it in the evenings and feeding the not-so-nice leftovers to the chickens and cattle.  The stand is still open all day from 9:00 am until dark.  If no one is out there feel free to leave money in the box on the counter.  We will try to get some potatoes weighed and in brown bags so they can stay out of the sun but still be available to you.  For things like our grass-fed beef and frozen sweet corn you'll have to catch one of us.  You can always ring the back doorbell or feel free to call ahead.

The garden has been an adventure, and I know that we have enjoyed eating sooo many fresh vegetables this summer.  It always makes it hard when winter comes and I end up buying produce at the grocery store when our frozen supplies run out.  There is still time left to buy "fresh from the land"!

New fall produce in the ground.

You can still find tomatoes, squash, green beans, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, eggplant, okra, and watermelon at the stand until further notice.  We want to make you aware of new items still to come...

Cantaloupe are on the vines, but not quite ready to be picked.  Be ready to get out here and get them fresh.  Just the other day Jordan was able to get some of our fall produce in the ground.  Some veggies that enjoy the cooler weather are lettuces, spinach, and peas.  We hope to offer these into the fall as well as some fall squash and a few pumpkins.  It has been fun watching things grow!

Last week for corn

8/15/2011

Finally, a couple good rains that should help out the garden.  Lots of produce will be available this week.  As usual the stand will be open 9-6:30.  Sadly, school starts next week.  Grab some watermelon or sweet corn to enjoy this last full week of summer.  This is probably the last week for some goooood sweet corn.  Just want everyone to know, so no one misses their chance.  Eat it for dinner or freeze some for later.  (We can tell you how.)  Email if you'd like a large order, so we can be prepared.

Also, for anyone interested in putting food aside for the winter...LOTS of tomatoes available for canning, LOTS of pickling cucumbers.

Melons ready

We picked our first watermelons today (with plenty more to come).  Get on out to the stand at 101 N. 450 E. to be one of the first to try the melons.  Also, today is the first day we haven't run out of tomatoes, they are becoming VERY plentiful.  Grab some hot peppers and onions to go with them and try your hand at making some homemade salsa.

The stand received a new paint job yesterday and is now sporting our logo, so you can't miss us as you drive by!

Knox Farmers Market!

7/20/2011

Last week we went to Knox, IN for the farmers market there with some of our produce.  Upon arrival at 7:45 we were surprised to find we were the only vendor.  We set up our table, and Nate went to get a tent and some breakfast for us.  We started the day at 5:30 picking produce.  We took along Potatoes, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Onions, Beets, Turnips, and Zucchini.  We sold about half of what we took, and got rid of all of our green beans and cucumber.  It was great to be out, as the market location is in a little park and it was just a nice day.  We are looking forward to going again.

This week we are working on keeping the plants cool in the crazy heat, and making a small farm stand to sell our produce out of comfortably.  We have framed in the shed, and look to add the finishing touches later in the week.  We need to have it ready by next we

Firsts

This is turning out to be a week of firsts for the garden.  On Saturday Nate and Jordan set up shop at the farmers' market in Knox.  Not very busy, but it was a good experience for our first time.  We were able to purchase what supplies we still needed and get some market experience.  We were also able to hand out our first business cards.
Today we finally began construction on our first ever "farm stand" (shed) where we will be selling produce down near the garden.  Come visit us this week at 88 N. 450 E. for beets, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, onions, potatoes, and turnips.  Hoping the stand will be complete by the end of the week.  Until then you can visit us under the green and white tent.

Lettuce is ready!

6/27/2011

This is Anne today.  We've been slowly eating our lettuce for the last couple of weeks, but it is becoming much more than we need.  Today I picked and washed a whole bunch.  I'm now waiting for it to dry, so I can bag it.  My plan is to do some 1/2 pound bags...(I think that is what they sell in the store when you buy a bag of lettuce, right?)  If anyone is interested I will have a lot of lettuce in my fridge.  We aren't setting up the stand yet for 2 reasons.  1) We haven't built one yet...that is a job for the boys.  2) Nothing else is ready yet except for radishes, so it would be a pretty empty stand.  BUT let me know if you'd like some salad or radishes or radishes to go in your salad.  :)

It is fun to see things getting bigger.  Will have to post new pictures soon.
